A) Subject Aims

To develop an ever-improving capability to use English as a medium to think and communicate by strengthening their interpersonal skills, knowledge of the subject and experience of other cultures.
To provide an authentic context for learners to acquire, develop and apply knowledge as well as to response and give expression to experience.

Features of School-based Curriculum

Textbook is implemented from P.1 to P.6. Various cooperative learning strategies are used in different class levels. Communicative and co-operative approach is adopted through group discussion, presentations and group writing so as to develop their language and generic skills.

P.1-3 (Key Stage 1)

Shared Reading Approach

Other than textbooks, fiction and non-fiction books are used in enriching the KS1 curriculum. Pupils can learn different vocabulary items, sentence structures and daily conversations through reading and activities.

NET Scheme

P.1 – P.2 one NET lesson per week (Phonics teaching is implemented.)

P.3 - P.6 one NET lesson per week

Our four NETs are Miss Ashley (P.1), Ms. Binnie (P.1, P.3, P.6), Miss Denise (P.1, P.4) and Mr. Samuel (P.1, P.2, P.5).

Our NETs create fun and lively speaking games for students aligning with the local General English Curriculum. Students discover their potential in listening and speaking through a myriad of learning activities such as matching games, interviewing one another, role play and more.

English Library Lessons

Each class has one English Library lesson every other week taught by the NETs and the Library Teacher.

To build students’ interest in reading English books, we spark students’ love of reading through introducing literature and other fun readers in English Library lessons. After reading interesting books, our NETs conduct stimulating activities to provoke students’ creativity and thoughts with the goal of helping students fall in love with reading. Step by step, we build up our students into independent and powerful readers.

P.4-6 (Key Stage 2)

From Reading across the Curriculum to Writing

Building on selected textbook units, additional fiction and non-fiction books are included to extend the KS2 curriculum to broaden students’ horizons and also deepen their understanding on crucial topics. After gaining knowledge from reading, our teachers guide students to reflect on the information they have learnt to product a piece of writing as the final product of the project.
